An old codgers musings.

My Mum (Marie Doreen Pook) passed away on the 11th October 2017. My sister Janette and I were looking in her cupboards for some wishes that she wanted us to carry out regarding her funeral, this had been written out some time before and was supposed to be in the cabinet in the lounge. We did not find the note prior to the funeral so I did it all from memory and the knowledge of what she would like to be said and be played.

However during that search I came across an exercise book which contained nine pages of her early life written in her own hand and covering 1925 to 1945. My original intention was to type the story out and place it into a couple of local groups such as this one. However she had such nice handwriting and it appears more personal I have decided to present it this was. I will in due time add some more notes to it covering the years Janette and I grew up. She passed away at the grand old age of 91. One month short of 92. Please let me know what you think of it and it might inspire me into knuckling down and complete the story as best as I can.

Months later when the cabinet was dismantled to remove from the house the note was found, it had fallen out of the drawer and had become stuck to the back of the cupboard below. Luckily we had fulfilled all the requests she had asked for. But an add on had been placed regarding the music to be played. The request was that, even though we could choose suitable music for the service. I was not under any circumstances allowed to play one piece of music.

This piece of music was by the Beatles and as teenager I used to play the piece quite often in my room, particularly if we had had a disagreement together. The track drove her mad because of its extensive and loud ending.

It was “A day in the life of” from “Sergeant Peppers” Luckily it did not appear on the song-sheet that day.

Here are the pages from my mum’s younger days.
